Repetition of shape but with a different object.

Repetition of shape but with a different object.

These interior spaces have been cleverly designed using a repeated shape but expressed in a variety of different features. The repeated shape unifies the individual parts into a whole while avoiding predictability.  It is not immediately obvious what is so comforting about this combination, but it brings a rhythm and consistency without jarring the senses.

  • in this entrance hall the repeated shape is a rectangle from the large table to the much smaller flower display. They are all set horizontally but not piled on top of each other rather positioned asymmetrically. It is a calm grouping but with interest.
  • in this living room the square shape is repeated one on top of the other but with a difference in size and function. The two are linked by repeating the black of the fireplace with a black frame around the photo.
  • inside this glass atriumed space there are semi circles repeated in the steel structure, the balconies and the arch topped doors. They are all pulled together into one by the full circle of the clock in the middle.
  • in this bedroom there is repetition and symmetry in the scheme but the intresting feature is the conical bedside table with an inverted conical lampshade above.
